My Korean is conversational now, but I guess I can't speak like they want me to. I got almost halfway through before failing out. I had a little and they tried to teach me Korean. Just fyi.ĭo you have any experience learning a language? So if you find that aggravating, find a way to deal with it or think seriously about not joining. At one point, after two airmen at DLI had died for not wearing their seatbelts, the deputy wing commander flew up from Texas and told us it was all our fault, as a squadron, that they had died - two guys I'd never even met or heard of before then. Gordon), this was especially aggravating. And since I was a member of both the largest squadrons in the Air Force (they split the 311th at DLI just after I left, and the unit at Ft. I think it's also worth pointing out, as many people I knew (including myself) had trouble with this, that "if an airman pees his pants, they make the squadron wear diapers." I was told this by a former Air Force member before I enlisted, and it held true throughout my time in the Air Force. I got rolled back at DLI four months, and the station I was going to PCS to required that airmen be available for at least two years, and so I had to extend my contract by four months in order to make it. Between your TS clearance, and your language, and the college credit you're earning toward your ccaf, you are pretty much garunteeing that you will always be employed, even if it's not with the Air Force. Airborn would deploy more and have a more tactically oriented job, as a ground linguist you'll probably never leave your desk, and have a good chance at getting put in the same small circle of duty stations for your entire time in. It has it's great moments, but it has a lot of red tape. If you make it (statistically you won't) you will have to keep a certain score yearly on the same test you took at the end of DLI for your entire time in the career field. Essentially, you are assigned a language, and have either 32 or 64 weeks to be fluent in it at a collegiate level. It will also probably be the most fun thing you will ever do. Unless you're one of the lucky few that just "get it", DLI will be the hardest thing you will ever do in your entire life. I made it 32 weeks as an Arabic MSA Student. You could also sign on for two, at least a few years ago, but to answer your question, you spend a year and a half in tech school. Thanks for taking the time to read my post/comment if you do! So I doubt he'll push the subject if I say no. He had been trying to get me to put whatever the computer programming AFSC is on my job list, but dropped it when I said I wasn't that interested. He's pretty laid back about this stuff though. However I'm wondering if these are critically manned or something like that. Also, would anyone know why he's suggesting these to me? He said it was because I "blew the qualifications out of the water," I got above 90 in every area on the ASVAB. I was wondering if anyone here would have any insight into these jobs, as far as what they're really like beyond what I would read on. My recruiter called me on Friday and asked if I would be interested in putting Airborne and Crypto Linguist on my job list, assuming I passed the qualification test for them. I'm currently in DEP and my job list consists of a lot of 3D series AFSC's, with Cyber Surety being my top pick.
